Question 294449: the length of a rectangle is 1 ft less than 3 times the width. the area of the rectangle is 310 ft. what are the dimensions of the rectangle. When i did the question i got w = 77.75 but when substituted in the equations that didn't make sense the equations i used were L*W=310 and 3W-1=L

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
l=-1+3w
l=3w-1
l*w=310
(3w-1)*w=310
3w^2-w-310=0
w= 31/3
w= 10 1/3
l=31/3*3-1
l=30
30*31/3=10*31=310
