First find a and b then plug that into the other terms and add
2a + 2+2b + 2=2004
2(a+1+b+1)=2004
a+1+b+1=1002
a+b=1000
a/2 - 2 + b/2 - 2
(a+b)/2-4
1000/2=4
500-4=496
