SOLUTION: Please, I have tried this one several times. Solve the equation {{{7+3t over 4 = -t over 8}}}. I began by multiplying both sides by 4 over 1, is this where I should have started?

Question 29272: Please, I have tried this one several times. Solve the equation 7%2B3t+over+4+=+-t+over+8. I began by multiplying both sides by 4 over 1, is this where I should have started? Thank You, Bugee62

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

%287%2B3t%29%2F4+=+-t%2F8 Equate both sides (make both of their denominators, 8)
%2814%2B6t%29%2F8+=+-t%2F8 One side already has a denominator of 8 so we only need to multiply the left hand side by 2 to make its denominator 8 as well
14%2B6t=-t As we have common denominators, we can get rid of them now, they don't matter, our equation is balanced
14%2B7t=0
7t=-14
t=-2
