You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Find the average rate of change for the function over the given interval.
y=√2x-1 between x=1 x=5
Answer is 1/2
--------------------
Average change = (change in y values)/(change in x values)
=(f(5) - f(1))/(5-1)
---
= (sqrt(9)-sqrt(1))/(4)
---
= (3-1)/4
= 1/2

Find the average rate of change for the function over the given interval.
y=√2x-1 between x=1 x=5
------------------
y+=+sqrt%282x-1%29
@x = 1, y = 1
@x = 5, y = 3
--------------
diffy = 3-1 = 2
diffx = 5-1 = 4
-----------------
diffy/diffx = 2/4 = 1/2
-------------------------
This is not a linear equation, and the 1/2 is the average rate of change, not valid at any of the points between (1,1) and (5,3)
