            a² + b² = c²

Construct a right triangle whose legs are 
equal in length to the sides of the two given 
squares, a and b.  Then by the Pythagorean 
theorem its hypotenuse c will be the length 
of the side of a square equal in area to the 
sum of the areas of the two given squares.
