You can put this solution on YOUR website!
"The value of an uncirculated 1950 Jefferson nickel minted in Denver is 5/4 the value a 1945 nickel minted in Philidelphia in similar condition.Together the two value of the coins is $36. What is the value of each coin?"
.
Let x = value of 1945 nickel
then
(5/4)x = value of 1950 nickel
.
x + (5/4)x = 36
4x + 5x = 144
9x = 144
x = $16 (value of 1945 nickel)
.
value of 1950 nickel:
(5/4)x = (5/4)16 = (5)4 = $20
