Let x = # of billions spent on bathrooms
Therefore, x + 5 = # of billions spent on kitchens
x + x + 5 = 26
2x + 5 = 26
2x = 21
x = 10.5 (bathrooms)
x+5 = 15.5 (kitchens)
10.5 + 15.5 = 26. OK.
