Question 289534: What are two consecutive even integers such as six times the first equals five times the second?
Answer by Earlsdon(6294) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Let the first even integer be 2x (2x because it's even no matter if x is even or odd, 2x will be even), then the next consecutive even integer is 2x+2, so we can write:
6(2x) = 5(2x+2) Simplify.
12x = 10x+10 Subtract 10x from both sides.
2x = 10
So the two numbers are 10 and 12
Check:
6(10) = 5(12)
60 = 60
