Question 28939: In the text book, the directions are, "Write an equation for each line that contains the given pair of points.(for slope)" The problem is (-6,1) (2,3). I don't understand how to get the answer, using the formula y=mx+b. Thank you.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You need slope (m) and y-intercept (b).
m=[3-1]/[2-(-6)]=2/8=1/4
Substitute x=2,y=3, and m=1/4 into y=mx+b to solve for "b".
3=(1/4)(2)+b
3-(1/2)=b
b=5/2
Your equation is y=(1/4)x+(5/2)
