Question 288300: Homespun Jellies charges $2.49 for each jar of preserves. Shipping charges are $3.75 for handling, plus $0.60 per jar. Find a linear function for determining the cost of buying and shipping x jars of preserves.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let "x" represent the number of unsold jars.
2.49 per jar will be 2.49x
3.75 for shipping and handling is constant, so no variable
plus 0.60 for each jar, or 0.60x
we'll let "y" equal the total cost
y=2.49x+3.75+0.60x
combine like terms to get:
y=3.09x+3.75
That is your linear function. For any number of jars sold, plug it into x and y will be the total cost.
