|2x+6| = 24
The absolute value sign means you have to consider two cases:
Case 1: the stuff inside the absolute value sign is positive:
2x+6=24
2x=18
x=9
Case 2: the stuff inside the negative value sign is negative:
-(2x+6)=24
-2x-6=24
-2x=30
x=-15
So there are two answers, x=9 or x= -15.
