Question 287012: Shomkia was helping her family pick oranges in their grove.
She took some oranges home to share with three friends.
She gave 3 more than half to Jennifer.
Angela got half of the remainder and 3 more.
She gave Jose half of the remainder plus 3.
When she got home, she only had 10 oranges left.
How many did she have when she left the grove?
I'm not sure how to figure this out. Can you help, so I can understand a similar question?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
With any luck you won't ever have another problem like this.
This is best done backwards
she ended up with 10 oranges
x-(x/2+3)=
x/2-3
x/2-3=10
x/2=13
x=26
so she gave Jose 13+3=16
26-13-3=10
we do this again for Angela.
x/2-3)=26
x=58
58-29-3=26
and finally we get to the first person Jennifer.
x/2-3)=58
x/2=61
x=122
122 oranges brought from the orchard. That is quite a load!
