Question 286889: Would you please show me the formula to work this problem? If each edge of a cube is increased by 30%, by what percent does the volume increase? thanks!!! Answer by jim_thompson5910(35256) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Recall that the the volume of a cube is where 's' is the side length. "If each edge of a cube is increased by 30%", then this means that the new side length is (note: this is the same as saying that the new side is 130% of the old side length). Replace 's' with 1.3s to now get
So the new volume is cubic units. Since the original volume is cubic units, the factor 2.197 plays the role in the increase. Simply multiply this number by 100 to convert it to the percent 219.7%
So "If each edge of a cube is increased by 30%", then the volume increases by 219.7%
