Recall that the the volume of a cube is V=s%5E3 where 's' is the side length. "If each edge of a cube is increased by 30%", then this means that the new side length is s%2B0.3s=1.3s (note: this is the same as saying that the new side is 130% of the old side length). Replace 's' with 1.3s to now get V=%281.3s%29%5E3=2.197s%5E3

So the new volume is 2.197s%5E3 cubic units. Since the original volume is s%5E3 cubic units, the factor 2.197 plays the role in the increase. Simply multiply this number by 100 to convert it to the percent 219.7%


So "If each edge of a cube is increased by 30%", then the volume increases by 219.7%
