You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x/3+x/5=1
5x+3x=15
8x=15
x=15/8= 1 7/8 hours
15/8/3=5/8
15/8/5=3/8
Jim did 5/8 and Jane did 3/8 of the room
15/8*60=15*4*15/8=225/2=112.5 minutes=1 hour 52.5 minutes

Jim can paint a room in 3 hours. Jane can paint the same room in 5 hours. How long will it take if they work together?
-----------------------
Jim rate: 1/3 room/hr
---
Jane rate: 1/5 room/hr
---
Together rate: 1/x room/hr
=================================
Equation:
rate + rate = together rate:
1/3 + 1/5 = 1/x
(8/15) = 1/x
x = 15/8
x = 1 (7/8) hrs (time to do the job together)
