Combine the "like" terms to get:
(19-7)x^3 + (6-11)x^2 + (7-11)x + (13-17)
-----
= 12x^3 - 5x^2 - 4x -4

i would start with grouping like terms to more easily add like terms
add like terms
19-7=12, 6-11=-5, 7-11=-4,13-17=-4
this is what they are added together

Original problem....

What you want to do is add together all the like terms. terms will add with other terms. Similarly, terms will add with other terms and so on......

It may help you if you re-write the problem with like terms underneath one another, like this:

When you do that you can see which terms go together, like this:

Where did we get that answer?? Break it down like this;

Now if you had a minus sign in front of a problem, like this:

you would have to distribute the minus sign. I mean to say that your problem would THEN become........
