Question 28536: I am having the worst time with mixture word problems. I am in College Algebra and this is my question.
---A chemist needs 170 milliliters of a 21% solution but has only 3% and 37% solutions available. Find how many milliliters of each that should be mixed to get the desired solution.
I used x= the 3% solution and y= the 37% solution.
I set it up as .3x%2B.21%28170%29=.37y
I don't think that is right, but that is what I came up with. Thank you so much for your help.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
y=170-x

3x+37y=21(170)---> subsitute
3x+37(170-x)=21(170)
can you solve it from there?
