Question 284345: y = 3x + 7 and x + 2y = -10
a.Do the lines intersect? Explain why. If the lines do intersect, find the point of intersection.
I dont want the answer only a guide on how to begin to solve the answer.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
y=3x+7
x+2y=-10
plug 3x+7 in for y in the second equation
x+2*(3x+7)=-10
solve for x
x+6x+14=-10
7x=-24
x=-24/7
-24/7+2y=-10
add 10
10-24/7=-2y
divide by -2
-5+12/7=y
-35/7+12/7=y
-23/7=y
x=-24/7
strange answers but correct
they intersect at (-24/7,-23/7)
