Question 283967: Could you please help me with this problem? Evaluate the logarithmic equation for three values of x that are greater than -1, three values of x that are between -2 and -1, and at x = -1. Show your work. Use the resulting pairs to plot the graph. State the equation of the line asymptotic to the graph.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
No. I can't evaluate an equation if you don't provide the equation -- nobody can. But here's what you can do. Pick three values greater than -1, they can be anything you like, but I suggest small integers. Pick three more values smaller than -1 but larger than -2. For these three values you can't use integers, so pick fractions with small denominators. Take each one of the 7 values, the 6 you just picked and -1 and then one at a time, substitute them into your equation and do the indicated arithmetic. If you need to use a calculator, well then, use a calculator. Make yourself a table with two columns, one labeled x and the other labeled f(x). In the x column write down the 7 values you selected. In the f(x) column write the corresponding results from doing the 7 arithmetic problems.
Create 7 ordered pairs where the x coordinate comes from the x column of your table and the y coordinate comes from the f(x) column of your table. Plot the seven points and draw a smooth curve through them. It should resemble the following in general shape:
Take the argument of your logarithmic function, that is the stuff inside of the log or ln statement. Set that expression equal to zero and then solve for x. The resulting equation, which I highly suspect will be , will be the equation of the asymptote.
