first thing is rearrange the equations so that they are in ax+by=c order
2x-y=2
3x+y=-1
just add the two equations
5x=1
x=1/5
substitute into either equation
2*1/5-y=2
2/5-y=2
subtract2/5 from both sides
-y=2-2/5
-y=1 3/5
y=-1 3/5= -8/5
