number of pennys = 2x-36
5x+(2x-36)=258 cents
5x+2x-36= 258
7x -36+36=258+36
7x=294
x= 294/7
x=42 which is the number of nickels
Number of pennies = 2x-36
plug the value of x
we get 2*42-36
=48
Number of pennies = 48
