Question 281264: What is the answer to 2y-5x=7 ,to solve for x, and why?
The answer is opposite mine.
I worked this problem to this:
2y-5x=7 I subtracted -2y from both sides and got
-5x=7-2y then I divided -5 from both sides and got
7-2y/-5. The book's answer is 2y-7/5. How did they get an answer
opposite mine? Have I missed a mathematical principle?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
2y+-+5x+=+7
-5x+=+7+-+2y
x+=+%287+-+2y%29%2F%28-5%29
multiply top and bottom by -1
x+=+%282y+-+7%29%2F5
I think the book had a misprint. The 5
should divide both 2y and 7
