Question 280469: Klups have 2 heads and 5 legs. Megals have 3 heads and 4 legs. There were a total of 161 heads, and 280 legs. How many were Klups?
I know that this is so basic, but I really struggle with putting a simple question into an algebraic equation.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Klups+=+2h+%2B+5l
Megals+=+3h+%2B+4l
So
Let the number of Klups be k and he number of Megals be m
2hk+%2B+3hm+=+161h
2k+%2B+3m+=+161
5lk+%2B+4lm+=+280l
5k+%2B+4m+=+280
Now you have two equations and two unknowns. You can solve this
Let me know if you can't
2k+%2B+3m+=+161
5k+%2B+4m+=+280
