After the 1st discount, it cost
x+-+.1x+=+.9x
After the 2nd discount, it costs
.9x+-+.15%2A%28.9x%29+=+.9x+-+.135x
.9x+-+.135x+=+.765x
.765x+=+306
x+=+400
The original cost was $400

.85*(.9x)= final price
.85*.9x=306

note if the 10% and 15% were added together it would be
