You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Hello,
We can set up two equations and solve it from there. We'll let x be one number and y be the other.
x-y=20
x(y)=-96
Let's put the second equation to look like this:
x=-96/y
Now we can plug this into the first to get:
-96/y-y=20 Multiply this by y to get
-96-y^2=20y Get this with everything on one side of the = sign.
0=y^2+20y+96 Factor this to get:
0=(y+8)(y+12)
y=-8
y=-12
Plugging these numbers into the equations give us:
x=12
x=8
There we go.
