Question 27924: Can someone please help me. My question is "The sum of three consecutive page numbers is 99. Find the numbers". I began to solve the problem as follows:
x + (x + 2) = 99
3x + 2 = 99
3x + 2 - 2 = 99 - 2
3x = 97
3x/3 = 97/3
x = 32.33
I have messed up some where. I thank you in advance.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Pam--
Your algebra is fine, but your setup is slightly off.
So now you have 3 consecutive pages that you're adding up, x, x+1, and x+2.
(Example 30, 30+1=31, and 30+2=32. When you add them up you get 99. Write:
x%2B%28x%2B1%29%2B%28x%2B2%29=99
3x%2B3=99
3x=96
x=96%2F3=32
Your 3 page numbers are 32, 33, and 34, which add up to 99.
