Question 278404: How would I find all the solutions if I have only been given the equation 3tanx-3=0 and told it is between [0, 2[pi])? Answer by dabanfield(803) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Since 3*tan(x) - 3 = 0
3*tan(x) = 3
tan(x) = 3/3 = 1
This means that the ratio of the opposite side to the adjacent side of the right triangle with "reference angle" x is 1. This happens when we have an isosceles (non-hypotenuse sides of same length) triangle or when x is 45 degrees (that is, pi/4 radians).
So the two values of x between 0 and 2*pi where opposite and adjacent sides are equal and of the same sign are pi/4 and pi + pi/4 = 5/4*pi.
