An x-intercept is a point that is on the x axis. Hence, the y coordinate of that point is 0.
4x-5y=12
if y=0, then
4x+-+5%2A0+=+12
4x+=+12
x=3
So the x intercept is the point (3,0)
Similarly, a y intercept is a point on a y axis. So, the x coordinate must be 0 there.
4x-5y=12
if x=0, then

-5y+=+12
