You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Exactly how many degrees are there between the hands of a clock at 3:40 pm
----------------------------
Measuring clockwise (what else?) from the 12, the minute hand is at 240 degs.
The hour hand is at 360*(3 2/3)/12 = 30*(11/3) = 110 degs.
The angle between them is 240 - 110 = 130 degrees.
-------------------
Here's a simpler method.
The minute hand is 2/3 of a revolution = 240 degs.
The hour hand is at 3, = 90 degs + 2/3 of 30 degs. The hour hand moves 30 degs/hr, so it's 20 degs past the 3.
--> the hour hand is at 110 degs
---------------------------------
General solution:
The angle clockwise from the hour hand to the minute hand is:
360*min/60 - (hr*30 + 30*(min/60))
= 11*min/2 - 30*hr
