You can put this solution on YOUR website!
a store received two shipments of clothing. the cost of the first shipment which contains 10 sweaters and 20 jackets was $800. the cost of the second shipment, which contains 5 sweaters and 15 jackets was $550. find the cost of one sweater and the cost of one jacket. PLEASE HELP. STEP BY STEP IF YOU CAN!
---------------
Equations:
10s + 20j = 800
5s + 15j = 550
-----------------------
Multiply thru the 2nd equation by 2 to get:
10s + 30j = 1100
10s + 20j = 800
-------------------------
Subtract the 2nd from the 1st:
10j = 300
j = $30 (price of one jacket)
----------------------
Substitute into 5s + 15j = 550 to solve for "s":
5s + 15(30) = 550
5s + 450 = 550
5s = 100
s = $20 (price of one sweater)
