Question 27619: The question is: You live in Pennsylvania and your grandparents live in Ohio. When you are in Pennsylvania, you drive an average rate of 55mph. When you are in Ohio, you drive an average rate of 65mph. The entire trip of 295 miles takes 5 hours. How long does it take to reach the Pennsylvania-Ohio border? How long does it take to get from the border to your grandparent's house?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let the time be x for you to be driving in the border.

Since the hgiest time is 5 hours you know that you can't exceed that, so 65(5-x) --> speed x time for Grandpaerent's house.
Border speed x time = 55x
Total distance = 295

Equation:
55x+65(5-x)=295
55x-65x+325=295
-10x=-30
x=3 (TIme accuquired for Around the border.)

5-3=2(time for grandparents house.)

Hence, it took 3 hours to go around the border, and 2 hours to reach grandparents house.
