You can put this solution on YOUR website! When you hear "rounding", you usually hear
"rounded to the nearest tenth" or
"rounded to 3 decimal places"
What it means is, the accuracy of a certain figure is
not needed to the number of places that it has.
Suppose you compute a distance to be
miles. If you're flying or driving that
distance, you aren't interested in that many decimal places,
so you might be told "round the answer to 2 decimal places"
What you do is , look at the 3rd decimal place.
Is it or greater? If so, increase the 2nd place by
So, rounding to 2 decimal places results in
miles.
---------------
You can round off any number. Say you count a population of
animals to be 1,275,911. Some animals are dying and some are
being born, so you might only need 4 figures, so you would
say, I counted 1,276,000 animals, rounded to 4 figures.
