x-y=2
now you can eliminate y to get the value of x
x+y=10
x-y=2
x=12
the value of x is 12
now we will eliminate x to get the value of y
we will multiply the second equation by -1 to eliminate x
x+y=10
-x+y=-2
2y=8
2y/2=8/2
y=4
the value of y is 4

by elimination
2x=12
x=6
6-y=2
y=4
by substitution
x+y=10
x-y=2
x=2+y
2+y+y=10
2y=8
y=4
x=2+y=6

x-y=2

-y=2
