Question 27565: amy paid 63.75 for a pair of new shoes during a 15% off sale. what was the regular price. I know the answer is 75.00 but could you show me the algebraic equation to get to that answer thank you Answer by josmiceli(19441) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! x is the regular price
$63.75 is the regular price minus 15% of the regular price
x - (.15)x = 63.75
this can also be written as
(1 - .15)x = 63.75
I just factored out the x on the left side
(1 - .15) = .85 so
.85x = 63.75
x = 75
