he will be placing 2 partititons with each partition being 1/2 inch wide.

take away 2 * 1/2 from 28 and you have 27 inches of space to play with.

the 2 partitions will be dividing the drawer into 3 spaces.

the first space will be x inches long.

the second space will be x + 3 inches long.

the third space will be x + 6 inches long.

the total of the 3 spaces will be 3x + 9 inches long and will equal 27 inches.

equation is 3x + 9 = 27

subtract 9 from both sides of this equation to get 3x = 18

divide both sides of this equation by 3 to get x = 6

the first space will be 6 inches long.

the second space will be 9 inches long.

the third space will be 12 inches long.

6 + 9 + 12 = 27 inches long plus 1 inch for the width of the 2 partitions = 28 inches long.

answer to your question is that the first partition will be placed 6 inches from the front of the drawer.
