Let the 3 consecutive even integers be: x, (x+2), (x+4)
:
write an equation for what it says:
"two times the first... is twenty-four more than the product of the third integer and four."
2x = 4(x+4) + 24
:
2x = 4x + 16 + 24
:
2x - 4x = 40
:
-2x = 40
x has to be +, multiply by -1
2x = -40
x = -20 is the 1st integer
then
-18, -16 are the 2nd and third integers
