Question 273925: Weight of objects varie according to elevation.
w=wieght r^-2=distance and C=constant w=Cr^-2 I need the formula for finding r. I know that r^-2 =1/r^2, however I do not know what to do other than as follows w=C(1/r^2). would this be correct.
weight = 100
distance = 3963 squared would =15705369 or should I be thinking along the lines of 1/√3963. I am totally lost on which way I should be trying to look at such a problem

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
weight is the force of gravitational attraction, with r measured from the center of the Earth

the force is directly proportional to the product of the masses
___ and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between the centers of mass

f = G * M1 * M2 / r^2 (G is the gravitational constant)

your C value incorporates the gravitational constant along with the masses of the Earth and the object

so ___ r = sqrt(C / w)
