The polygon with the least number of sides is a triangle. Since no triangle can have parallel sides, 3 is excluded as an answer. Rhombi and parallelograms, their special cases of squares and rectangles, and trapezoids are all quadrilaterals with at least one pair of parallel sides. Hence if two of the line segments of a polygon are parallel, the fewest number of sides is 4.
