Question 27340: We have this homework question on a worksheet. Our algebra teacher said we need to be sure on the answer because we will have it on at least one quiz.
Here is what he gave us. %28X%2B3%29%28X%5E2-2X%2B4%29 and he told us to simplify.
I got this as a final answer: X%5E3%2BX%5E2-2X%2B12 . Is this right???? Thanks, Luke

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
%28x%2B3%29%28x%5E2-2x%2B4%29 Because you're multiplying a binomial by a trinomial (2 terms by 3 terms) your answer before simplifying will have 6 terms. I sometimes find it easier when working on paper to write all 6 terms on two lines, the first line being %28x%29%28x%5E2-2x%2B4%29 and the second line being %28%2B3%29%28x%5E2-2x%2B4%29 lining up all of my terms (x^2, x^3, etc...) like:
1st line: x%5E3-2x%5E2%2B4x
2nd line.....: 3x%5E2-6x%2B12
Now you should recognize that you when you add the two lines you'll combine x^2 and x terms to get:
x%5E3%2Bx%5E2-2x%2B12
Which is what you got, so you'll probably be fine.
