CAn you please help me with this question? An open box is to be constructed from a rectangular sheet of tin 3 meters wide by cutting out a 1-meter square from each corner and folding up the sides. The volume of the box is to be 2 cubic meters. What is the length of the tin rectangle?
Let the length of the sheet be L
The width of the sheet is 3 meters
You are cutting of 1 meter square from the length and the width of the sheet.
On the width side only 1 meter will be left which is folded . So this one meter will form the width of the box. Also the height of the box will also be 1 meter.
The volume of box = 2 cubic meters
L*W*H = 2
L*1*1 = 2
L= 2
length is 2 meters
Add 1 + 1 meter which you have cut off from both the corners of the length also.
So the length of the tin sheet will be 4 meters
