Question 271727: The backyard can be mapped onto a Cartesian coordinate (x,y) graph. Using the various items described in the yard below, answer the following questions.
a) A water line is given by the equation.
y=-0.6x+3.2
Suppose you want to put a pink flamingo lawn ornament in your backyard, but you want to avoid placing it directly over the water line, in case you need to excavate the line for repairs in the future. Could you place it at the point (-0.375,6) ? Demonstrate how you arrived at your answer with the detail calculations.
b)What is the slope and y-intercept of the line in part a? How do you know?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
a)
Neither a flamingo nor a backyard can have negative coordinates. So you can't place the flamingo at the given point.
Otherwise you can plug in the given x and y to see if the result is equal.
(-0.375,6)
where x=-0.375 and y=6
y=-0.6x+3.2
That point is not on the line anyways.
b)
y=-0.6x+3.2
The slope is -0.6 and the y intercept is 3.2
How do I know? Because I am one smart tutor.
The slope intercept form is y=mx+b where m is the slope and b is the y intercept
