Question 27162: A molecule of octane has 26 atoms. If there are 6 fewer hydrogen atoms than 3
times the number of carbon atoms, how many atoms of each does it contain?
What is the solution?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let the carbon atoms be x
Let the hydrogen atom be 3x-6

x+3x-6=26
4x=32
x=8

3(8)-6=18

Hence, there are 8 carbon atoms and 18 hydrogen atoms in the compound.
