To get the perimeter you add both lengths and both widths. Which is also seen as: 2l%2B2w=146
Now plug in the length for l, and the width for w: 2%2849%29%2B2%282x%29=146
Now you need to mulitply to get rid of the parenthesis: 98%2B4x=146
Subtract 98 from both sides: 4x=48
Divide by 4 on both sides: x=12
