Consider the right angled triangle.
hypoteneuse is 17 cm.
Chord is 8 cm from centre of circle, so length of side is 8 cm
Third side is sqrt 17^2 - 8^2 = 225 = 15^2
So length of the sine is 15 and the length of the chord is double that or 30 cm.
