Question 270156: WOULD YOU PLEASE CHECK IF I HAVE THE CORRECT ANSWER TO MY QUESTION? I MAKE THE ANSWER TO BE 3,139,500 CUBIC METRES.
The question? there are 3 Tunnels and they are each 50 kilometers long.
2 of the tunnels have a 7.6 metre diameter and the 3rd tunnel which is smaller has a 4.8 metre diameter, the tunnels are to be treated as a tube and I need to find the volume of rubble removed from this circular cross section tunnel.
Also what is a circular cross section. Any help would be much appreciated.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
----
The circular cross section does not have a volume; it has an area.
The area = (pi)r^2 = (pi)(7.6/2)^2 = 45.36 sq meters for each of
two tunnels.
The volume of each of these tunnel would be 45.36*50,000 = 2268000 cu meters
=================================
The area = (pi)(4.8/2)^2 = 18.10 sq meters for the other tunnel.
The volume of the smaller tunnel would be 18.10*50,000 = 904778.68 cu meters
=================================
-----------------------------------------------------
Also what is a circular cross section.
Take a wooden telephone pole.
Use a saw to cut it in half.
The flat top of the bottom half of the pole is a circular cross section of
the pole. The section has area but no volume. Only the pole has volume.
