You can put this solution on YOUR website!
a nut store normally sells cashews at $4 per pound and peanuts for $1.50 per pound. at the end of the month the peanuts had not sold well, so in order to sell 60 pounds of the peanuts, the manager decided to mix the 60 pounds of peanuts with some cashews and sell the mixture for 2.50 per pound. how many pounds of cashews should be mixed with the peanuts to ensure no changes in the profit?
Let the quantity of cashews to be mixed be x
peanuts mixed = 60 lbs
peanuts---------------------- cashews----------------- mix
60 pounds----------------------x pounds---------------(60+x) pounds
60*1.5-------------------------4*x---------------------(60+x) * 2.5 dollars
60*1.5+4x=(60+x)*2.5
90 +4x= 150 +2.5x
4x-2.5x= 150-90
1.5x= 60
x= 40 lbs
40 lbs of cashews have to mixed.
