Expand both sides of the equation:
-6y - 2 = 3 -18y - 9
Add 18y to both sides:
-6y + 18y - 2 = 3 -18y + 18y -9
12y - 2 = 3 - 9
12y - 2 = -6
Add 2 to both sides:
12y - 2 + 2 = -6 + 2
12y = -4
Divide both sides by 12:
y = -4/12 = -1/3
