x+ 2 3/4= 3 7/8
Change to improper fractions
x + 11/4 = 31/8
Get the same DEN
x + 22/8 = 31/8
Subtract 22/8
x = 9/8

You can make it 1 1/8, but there's no reason to do so.

I would say turn all mixed numbers into improper fractions as
x+%2B+11%2F4=+31%2F8
subtract 11/4 from both sides to get
x+=+31%2F8+-+11%2F4
simplify the fractions to get
x+=+9%2F8
