We can set up two different equations and solve. Let x be one number and y be another so we'll have these two equations: 
x-y=37 
x=6y-3 
We can now plug the second equation into the first like this: 
(6y-3)-y=37 Combine like terms and add 3 to both sides to get: 
5y=40 Divide each side by 5 to result in: 
y=8 This is the smaller number 
x=45 
Now plug these numbers into the equations above to see if it works.
