A recipe calls for 3 1/2 of white flour and 1 3/4 of wheat. How much flour does the recepie need in all
-----
(3 1/2) + (1 3/4)
---
Convert to improper fractions:
(2*3+1)/2 + (4*1+3)/4
---
7/2 + 7/4
---
Convert to a common denominator:
(14/4) + (7/4)
---
Add "like" terms to get:
(21/4) or 5 1/4
