Two angles are complementary. The sum of the measure of the first angle and one-fourth the second angle is 66 degree. WHat is the measures of the angles?
Le x be the first angle and y the second. Then we have:
1.) x + y = 90 (complementary angles)
2.) x + (1/4)*y = 66 (given)
From 1.) we know that y = 90 - x
Substitute 90 - x for y in 2.):
x + (1/4)*(90 - x) = 66
Solve the above for x and then calculate y = 90 - x.
